01. Locke and Key
If you are a fan of the series Stranger Things, this is a perfect series for you. This show is about paranormal mysteries, as three siblings come to terms with their father’s murder while unlocking their family’s secrets via a set of hidden keys with magical powers. But there is a problem: these keys are being sought after, particularly by a demon that wants to wreak havoc on the world. So while you wait for Stranger Things to arrive, this is a very good alternative.
02. Sex Education
Sex Education is a comedy about teens grappling with sexuality. that’s where Otis (Asa Butterfield) comes in. It’s one of the best Netflix series of the moment. The son of prominent sex therapist Jean, Otis, tries to help teenagers at his school with their sexual problems. When a friend of Otis named Maeve realizes Otis’s therapy skills could make money, they go into business together, treating the neuroses of their classmates. It should be smooth sailing, but then Otis realizes he has feelings for Maeve. Sex Education contains a lot of sex jokes, but what leaves a lasting impression is the show’s recognition that sex can be an emotionally perilous adventure and the effects that can have on people. That is the reason why the show has many fans, they approach issues as varied sexual identities, gendered power structures, family dynamics and so much more.
03. The Witcher
The Witcher is the perfect fantasy drama to watch right now if you’re still hurting over the end of Game of Thrones. Based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, the first season introduces you to Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter with magical powers: a Witcher. Bloody battles, complicated characters, and memorable songs are just some of the charms this dark fantasy series has to offer.
04. Stranger Things
Stranger Things is a brilliant tribute to the pop culture of the ’80s. The story revolves around a small town, a mysterious creature, a secret government agency, a group of kids having adventures around their rural town, a missing person, teens experimenting with sex, drugs, and peer pressure. Writing anything else would give away the myriad turn in a show that is full of amazing creepy fun.
05. Top Boy
Top Boy is a story of two drug dealers in East London. They run an underground drugs business to become rich. To live rich Dushane and Sully go into partnership with the top don Bobby Raikes. Rivalry with Kamale and his gang results in their loan from Raikes being stolen, and they swear revenge. Thirteen-year old Ra’Nell gradually gets lured into the gang and drug business as his mother Lisa has a breakdown and is hospitalised – with devastating consequences. A new season of Top Boy is on the way.
06. Love is Blind
Love is Blind follows singles that get engaged without seeing each other. It starts with a blind date as the freshly-paired couples reveal themselves to each other, then go on holiday, move in together, and meet each other’s parents. It’s a fascinating sociological experiment, and a potential Love is Blind season 2 is on the way.
07. Breaking Bad
When chemistry high school teacher Walter White gets diagnosed with cancer, he starts to cook and deal premium blue meth to pay his hospital bills. This is easy for him because of his chemistry knowledge. His partner is his former student Jesse Pinkman. Breaking Bad is full of moral consequences, tense and family issues. Fans of Breaking Bad probably already know that a Breaking Bad movie, called El Camino, has been released on Netflix. You’ll also want to check out the spin-off Better Call Saul, which we will discuss next.
08. Better Call Saul
Starring Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul takes fans of Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad back to the New Mexico desert for a look at Saul Goodman’s origin story. Before Goodman became the quirky, crooked lawyer Walter White played like a fiddle, he was Jimmy McGill, an aspiring lawyer who just couldn’t seem to keep his hands clean. The show is set six years prior to the events of Breaking Bad, and throws out the convention that a spinoff must pale in comparison to its source material.
09. The Walking Dead
This show is all about survival, the risks, and the things you’ll have to do to survive. Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes gets shot and falls into a coma. When awoken he finds himself in a Zombie Apocalypse. Not knowing what to do he tries to find his family, after he’s done that he gets connected to a group to become the leader. He takes charge and tries to help this group of people survive, find a place to live, and get them food. But the zombies aren’t the only thing the survivors have to worry about: they must face each other too. The Walking dead is one of the best Netflix series of all times.
10. I Am Not Okay With This
I Am Not Okay With This is produced by the Stranger Things team, directed by The End of the F*ing World’s Jonathan Entwistle, based on a comic by Charles Forsman and stars It’s Sophia Lillis. The show follows Syd, who not only has to deal with the challenges of teenagerhood and her sexuality, but also has to work out how to manage her newly discovered super powers.
